The liquid-cooled 247 cc two-stroke twin sold as the RD 250R in some markets and the RZ 250R in others, with a six-speed box, rear monocross suspension and a single front disc. It was a light, quick road-going descendant of Yamaha's racing-derived LC range, aimed at riders wanting a high-revving quarter-litre sports bike.
